Bright Sparks

If you’re still at school and are interested in electronics or computer programming, perhaps you should think about joining Bright Sparks.

Created by ETITO, Bright Sparks is a programme designed to increase the number of talented young people keen to pursue careers in New Zealand’s high-tech industries.

The Bright Sparks programme is made up of three main elements:

  • The National Certificate in Electronics Technology [NCET] [Levels 2 and 3] - a specialised electronics pathway currently available in 180 schools at Years 11, 12 and 13, with supporting junior programmes.
  • The Bright Sparks internet and email club -  with 1800 student members supported by industry mentors http://www.brightsparks.org.nz/home.sm
  • The Bright Sparks HiTech Competition - an annual nationwide competition which recognises student innovation and excellence in electronics and software.

By joining the Bright Sparks internet club, you’ll have the opportunity to get together with hundreds of technology-savvy young people and discuss all sorts of technology-related issues on the online forum. You’ll also be able to get tips and advice when it comes to creating technology-inspired inventions for entry into the Bright Sparks HiTech Competition.

Over the years, thousands of extremely talented young individuals have been involved with Bright Sparks. Many have gone on to win international awards, achieve tertiary qualifications (in some cases being awarded prestigious scholarships) and secure employment in the high-tech industry.

There are currently over 1,800 active members of the Bright Sparks internet and email club and more than 180 secondary schools and 2,750 students are currently involved in the Bright Sparks programme. Could you be one of them?
